Contemporary Mathematics in Context

Course 1: July 27-31, 2009                  Course 2: August 3-7, 2009

 

The Western Region Education Service Alliance (WRESA) is partnering with the Math and Science Partnership project for Buncombe County and Asheville City Schools and others to offer week-long summer institutes to NC high school mathematics teachers and middle school Algebra 1 teachers on the recently revised second edition of Contemporary Mathematics in Context, http://www.wmich.edu/cpmp/2ndEdition.html. Contemporary Mathematics in Context is a four-year high school mathematics curriculum developed and revised with funding from the National Science Foundation with courses organized around interwoven strands of

* algebra and functions                     * geometry and trigonometry

* statistics and probability               * discrete mathematics

 

Course 1 will be offered the week of July 27-31 and course 2 the week of August 3-7, 2009. Sessions will be held from 8:30-4:00 at the WRESA facilities at 1459 Sand Hill Road, Enka, NC, 28728, and led by North Carolina educators with many years of teaching experience with these innovative instructional materials.

 

Registration is limited and priority will be given to teachers with three or more applicants from their MS/HS district. There is no registration fee. The full cost of the sessions will be covered through Math Science Partnership grants. If your school system is served by a Math Science Partnership grant, contact the project directors to see if stipends can be provided.
