University of North Carolina - Asheville Licensure Courses – Spring Semester (classes begin January 22, 2008)

Courses are being offered specifically for lateral entry teachers (those who are employed in schools)  in western North Carolina. These courses meet the Regional Alternative Licensing Agency’s (RALC) standards. Courses are taught at A-B Tech and UNCA each semester and are transmitted to regional teleconferencing sites. This summer we will be offering a course at Asheville City Schools

 

 

 

Spring Courses Offered

Educational Psychology (a course taught at UNC Asheville), 8 weeks with a 15 hour on-line component. Tuesdays 5:30 – 9:00pm, Jan.22 – March 4, 2008. (First spring course)

(meets the competencies of understanding the learner & exceptionalities/diversity)

Methods and Materials of Teaching (a course taught at UNC Asheville), 8 weeks with a 15 hour on-line component. Tuesdays 5:30 – 9:00pm, Mr. 18 – May 6, 2008. (Second spring course)

(meets the competency of instructional methods)

 

Using this model, lateral entry teachers can complete the five competencies taught at the college level in one calendar year  Courses will originate from UNCA and AB Technical College (fall only) and will be teleconferenced to McDowell Tech, Blue Ridge Community College, and Murphy High School Cyber Campus. Summer courses are offered at Asheville City Schools.
