Module 3

PowerPoint files are opened and saved just like any other file. In this exercise you will open the file you downloaded in the previous module and then save it under a different name.

Opening a PowerPoint Presentation :

 

Activity 1 - Opening a PowerPoint Presentation  

  1. From the Office Button, either choose from the Recent Documents list or click Open .
  2. When you click "Open" click the drive, folder, or Internet location that contains the presentation you want.
  3. In the folder list, locate and open the folder that contains the presentation.

If you can't find the presentation in the folder list, you can search for it.

  1. Double-click the presentation you want to open.

Saving a PowerPoint presentation 

 

Activity 2 - Saving a PowerPoint presentation

1. To save a presentation, go to the Office  menu and choose "Save As".  

2. In the Save A copy of the document window you may choose from several different formats to use. It is important to know that the default PowerPoint 2007 format can't be opened by earlier versions of PowerPoint. The new format uses the file extension .pptx instead of the traditional .ppt. If you want to make this copy of your presentation compatible with earlier versions you must save them as a "PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation."

3. Create a new folder by clicking on the "New folder" button

4. In the New Folder dialogue box type a name for the folder, in this case, "My Folder" and click OK

5. In the Save As dialogue box, in the "File Name" box, select the current file name and type "My Sample

6. In the "Save as type" box, click the down arrow and select "PowerPoint Presentation"

7. Click the "Save" button

8. PowerPoint saves the presentation to the "My Presentations" folder and renames it "My Sample"

 

Save a copy of a presentation

  1. On the Office menu, click Save As.
  2. Choose "PowerPoint Presentation" from the right hand window.
  3. In the File name box, enter a new name for the presentation.
  4. Click Save.

Tip   To save the copy in a different folder, click a different drive in the Save in box or a different folder in the folder list, or both. To save the copy in a new folder, click New Folder .
