The Instructional Technology program at Appalachian
State University is an innovative, award-winning graduate degree program. Nearly
all of our 160 students are part-time, distance-based practicing education
professionals who learn together in regional cohorts. All of our content -- and
nearly all of our interactions with students and with each other -- is housed in
an innovative online learning environment, called AET Zone.
AET Zone, a 3D virtual world for learning, has been recognized as a
significant and innovative educational technology initiative.

The Instructional Technology Specialist/Computers
program is designed for K-12 educators and administrators who want to combine
studies in both instructional applications and computer technologies. These
studies lead to state licensure for the Technology Director (077) and the
Technology Facilitator Endorsement (079). Many
classroom teachers pursue this degree to improve their classroom use of computer
technologies.
