iTAC2’s Student Technology Applications Competition

Cherokee Central Schools Campus
General information and guidelines:
· Participation is limited to N.C. high school students enrolled in schools in the WNC EdNET region (from Haywood County west). Each student participant or student group must identify a faculty member from his or her school to serve as the sponsoring teacher for the project.
· The competition will allow students to showcase examples of their best technology-based work. Presentations may be based on work samples from previous school years. Entries in all subject areas and utilizing all technology applications are encouraged.
· Three categories of projects will be included:
1. Content-driven or class-related assignments-individual projects only
2. School or community service projects-may be group*or individual projects
3. Independent projects based on hobbies or special interests-may be group* or individual projects
· The competition will consist of a 10-15 minute student presentation which should include each of the following:
1. Introduction (5 minutes or less)-Introduce one’s self and the topic. Give the context for the work. What were the student’s purposes? Describe why the specific type of technology was chosen for the project.
2. Demonstration (5 minutes)-Demonstrate the project itself utilizing the presentation computer station. Students may provide explanations, if needed.
3. Question and answer period (5 minutes)-Allow time for the judges to ask questions about the project.
· Presentations will be evaluated by a panel of judges. A copy of the judging rubric will be sent via email to each sponsoring teacher’s school email address.
· Entry forms will be accepted through Friday October 8, 2010 (5:00 PM EST). For group projects, choose one student to serve as the student contact for the entry form.
· Final notification of eligibility to compete will be sent via email to the student and the sponsoring teacher in early October.
· A specific time and location for the student’s competition presentation will be scheduled for each participant; this information will be emailed to the entrant prior to the iTAC2 Conference.
· Students should bring their presentations and/or demonstrations on a flash drive or other removable memory device ready for loading to the presenter station prior to the competition.
· Prizes*will be awarded to three finalists in each category.
o $750 Scholarship First Prize
o $500 Scholarship Second Prize
o $250 Scholarship Third Prize
*Prizes for group presentations may be divided equally among the members of the group or awarded to the student organization sponsoring the project
