Text in newspaper columns flows continuously from the bottom of one column to the top of the next column. You can specify the number of newspaper columns you want, adjust their width, and add vertical lines between columns. You can also add a banner heading that spans the width of the page. |
This module will cover the topics in the bulleted list below relating to Columns. Complete each of the activities by following the steps enumerated in the yellow box. Some of the activities will be accompanied by demos to help you "see" the steps being performed before trying them yourself. At the end of this module, you will be given an assignment which you should complete and email as an attachment to cgeorge@wresa.org .

| Activity 1: Creating
columns 1. Download the file Sample52.doc .Open the document in Word. 2. To see the sections you are about to create, switch to Normal View. 3. Place the insertion point before the text (Highlights). On the Insert menu click Break and select Continuous under Section Breaks. Then click OK.
5. Return to the top of the page and select the section containing (Highlights) and (Inside) being sure to select the section break at the end.
8. Place the insertion point in the first section and click the Columns button on the Standard toolbar - select 2 columns in the drop down window.
10. Scroll down and click in front of (Inspired Q&A) - Hit the ENTER key twice. 11. Select the two blank lines you have just created and in the style box, select Normal. 12. To see how your newsletter will look click Print Preview on the toolbar - Zoom in and then close Print Preview.

1. Scroll to the upper position of page
1. Select (INSERT PICTURE HERE) and press DELETE. 2. On the Insert menu point to picture
and click Clip Art.
3. In the Task Pane, type delivery in the
Search for box. Click Search. Select a
picture, click the down arrow and select Insert.
4. To place the picture next to the
article instead of above it, Right click the picture and click Format
Picture on the shortcut menu. 5. In the Format Picture dialogue box,
click the Wrapping tab and click Square. 6. To add space between the picture and
the text, click the Position tab and type 0.2 in the Horizontal and
Vertical spin boxes. Click OK. |

1. Scroll to the top of the first page
and triple click (Highlights) to select the paragraph. 2. On the Format menu, click Borders and
Shading. 3. In the Borders and Shading dialogue
box, click the Shading tab. In the Patterns section, click the Style
down arrow and select Solid (100%). 4. Click the Color down arrow and select
Violet. Click OK. 5. Select (Highlights). Click the
Font Color down arrow on the Formatting toolbar, and select White. 6. Repeat these steps for the (Inside) heading text.
7. To use borders to separate sections of
the newsletter, scroll towards the middle of page 1, and triple click the
title (Home Delivery Unites with Retailers). 8. On the Format menu, click Borders and
Shading, then select the Borders tab. 9. Click on the Color down arrow and
select Violet. 10. Click the Width down arrow and select 6 pt. 11. In the Preview section, click the top left button and then click OK.

1. Scroll up and triple click (The Group
Gazette). 2. Select 24 in the Font Size box and
type 60, then press ENTER. 3. Double click (The). Click the
Font arrow on the Formatting toolbar, and select Garamond. 4. Double click (Gazette). Change
the font to Arial Black. 5. Click the Font Color arrow, and select
the Gray-50% color. 6. On the Format menu, click Font, and
then click the Font tab. In the Effects section, select the Shadow
checkbox. Click OK. 7. To separate the masthead from the rest
of the newsletter, select the title, subtitle, issue line, and dateline. 8. Click Borders and Shading on the
Format menu. Select 1/4 pt from the Width list box on the Borders
tab. 9. In the Preview section, click the top
and the bottom of the diagram, then click OK.

1. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
Click on the Print Preview button on the Standard toolbar. 2. Click on the View Ruler button on the
Print Preview toolbar. 3. To adjust the right margin, point to
the spot between the white and gray areas on the right side of the
horizontal ruler (the pointer changes to a double-headed arrow), and drag
it to the right to make the right margin narrower. The text readjusts
to the new dimensions. 4. Adjust the top margin in the same
manner, using the vertical ruler on the left side of the Word window. 5. Click Close to return to the Page
Layout view. |
